Where Authentic Shungite Comes From

Authentic Shungite is a naturally occurring carbon-rich stone found only in the Republic of Karelia, Russia. The most well-known and historically documented source is the Zazhoginsky deposit, which has been studied and mined for generations.

Shungite sourced outside of Karelia — including materials marketed from India, China, Pakistan, or elsewhere — is not geologically classified as true shungite.

All Growing Healing Shungite products are sourced from Karelia and carved from single, solid stones, not molded, powdered, or composite materials.

  • All Growing Healing Shungite products are carved from single, solid stones. We do not sell molded, powdered, cast, or composite materials. Each
    piece retains the natural texture and variation of genuine Karelian
    Shungite.

  • As interest in Shungite has grown, materials from other regions such as South America, China, India and Pakistan are
    being marketed using the name “shungite.” These materials may contain carbon, but they do not share the same unique carbon structure as authentic Karelian Shungite.
