While most people understand the health risks involved with cell phone use, many people are under the impression that their cordless phone is a safe alternative. Unfortunately, the new DECT Technology used in cordless phones has made them as dangerous to you and your family’s health as your cell phone.

Digitally Enhanced Cordless Telecommunication (DECT) Technology was first introduced in Europe for use in office buildings. It soon made its way into Germany for residential use. Soon after implemented in German homes, DECT’s adverse health effects became apparent.

Infants in Germany living in homes with a DECT cordless phone began having irregular heartbeats. Dr. Leberecht von Klitzing documented a case of an infant brought to him who was having irregular heartbeats. After ruling out all possibilities, he found that removing the newly installed DECT cordless phone from the infant’s house stopped the problem.

Why is DECT Technology So Dangerous?

Unlike the older cordless phones, DECT Cordless Phones continuously emit a pulsed field of microwave radiation at full power. The German Radiation Protection Agency has said that the strongest source of microwave radiation in an average home today is coming from the DECT phone.

Symptoms Associated with DECT Cordless Phone Exposure:

Among adults, insomnia seems to be one of the main complaints. Often, a DECT cordless phone is placed on the bedside table. There have been cases documented where removal of the phone results in a return of the person’s ability to sleep.

Some other symptoms:

  • Headaches, Migraines
  • Chronic Fatigue
  • Daytime sleepiness
  • Tinnitus
  • Chronic Infections
  • Connective Tissue Pains
  • Heart Rhythm Disorders
  • Learning Disorders
  • Autism Spectrum Disorders

Studies have found an increase in brain tumors among those who have used DECT cordless phones consistently for over 5 years.

The Interdisciplinary Association for Environmental Medicine in Germany has called for a ban on DECT cordless phones in preschools, schools, hospitals, nursing homes, events halls and public buildings. They have also called for a reduction in the strength of the microwave field given off by the technology. This would require a revision of the DECT Technology.
