Radiation Effects on Children

To date, many countries worldwide have taken special precautions when it comes to children and technology. Bans on the use of cell phones in schools is a move that has been made by some governments as a way to limit children’s exposure to wireless radiation.

In a recent published paper titled “On the Clear Evidence of the Risks to Children from Smartphone and WiFi Radio Frequency”, Professor Tom Butler from University Cork College in Ireland explores the unique risks associated with children’s exposure to the ever increasing amount of wireless radiation present in our environments.

…amount of radiation exposure today is over 100 times higher as we live in proximity to a very large number of actively transmitting Wi-Fi Devices and Wi-Fi Access Points/Routers.”

Wireless radiation is emitted by cell phones, WiFi, all bluetooth technology, gaming consoles, 5G and all ‘smart’ devices.

In his paper, Professor Butler first looks as the history of wireless radiation over the past 20 years:

“Exposure of humans to non-ionizing radio frequency radiation (RFR) has increased dramatically over the past 20 years, particularly where children are concerned. Epidemiological and experimental research reports increased risk of pathophysiological conditions with current exposures to Smartphone and WiFi RFR that include: cellular DNA damage, leading to a range of cancers; sperm and testicular damage leading to male infertility; neuropsychiatric conditions, including post-natal neural development, and learning and cognitive problems; and melatonin reduction leading to sleep disruption; among others.”

While radiation exposure guidelines put into effect by governments do not distinguish between children and adults, it seems a recent study has confirmed what researchers have been warning of for years – that children are indeed more susceptible to the hazards of radiation.

Professor Butler breaks down why in his paper:

“A recent study demonstrated that in a child’s brain the hippocampus and hypothalamus absorb 1.6–3.1 times the microwave energy of an adult brain. The absorption rate is 2.5 times higher than an adult’s where a child’s cerebellum is concerned. The same study found that the bone marrow in a child’s skull absorbs microwave radiation at a level 10 times greater than that of an adult. In addition,a child’s eyes absorb higher levels of microwave radiation than adults. If, as the latest scientific evidence indicates, low-level microwave radiation poses a health risk, and if safety standards are outdated, then it is logical to assume that children are at significant risk from any device radiating microwave radiation…”

Professor Butler is calling for the removal of all WifF Devices and WiFi Routers from schools. He is also calling for the EU’s Precautionary Principle to be enacted regarding wireless radiation.

“When an activity raises threats of harm to human health or the environment, precautionary measures should be taken even if some cause and effect relationships are not fully established scientifically.”

According to Professor Butler, the enacting of the Precautionary Principles by governments in the EU for wireless radiation is long overdue. Just as children are banned from smoking cigarettes and drinking alcohol, Butler feels similar types of limitations should be placed on children’s use of wireless devices.
