The County of Santa Cruz is taking a legal stand against the mandatory installation of Smart Meters, even intimating to the Santa Cruz Public Board that police action to defend the citizens’ rights to not have Smart Meters installed against their will might be in order.

Why is the County so adamant that Smart Meter installation not be mandated and that citizens be allowed to opt-out?

They cite their main reason for demanding opt-outs being the adverse health dangers associated with chronic, long-term exposure to EMFs from Smart Meters.

In an Ordinance to County Officials, the Board writes:

“Significant health questions have been raised concerning the increased electromagnetic frequency radiation (EMF) emitted by the wireless technology in Smart Meters, which will be in every house, apartment and business, thereby adding additional human-made EMF to our environment around the clock…”

“…FCC safety standards to not exist for chronic long-term exposure to EMF or from multiple sources, and reported adverse health effects from electromagnetic pllution include sleep disorders, irritability, short-term memory loss. headaches, anxiety, nausea, DNA breaks, abnormal cell growth, cancer, premature aging, etc.”

“Because the potential risks to the health, safety and welfare of County Residents are so great. the Board of Supervisors wishes to adopt a moratorium on the installations of Smart Meters…”

As if potential dangers to an individual’s health is not enough, the Board also goes on to state that there have been concerns regarding Smart Meters and their interference with the proper functioning of other technologies and appliances in the home.

Adverse health effects coupled with interference with the function of everyday household devices makes Smart Meter installation seem, well….not so smart.
